About the Town

Trumbull is a lovely community in Fairfield County, Connecticut that has managed to find balance between its New England town charm and its commercial and manufacturing character. The town was settled in 1639 as part of Stratford, and incorporated in 1797. Among the first businesses that started in the area were a grist mill, a saw mill and a dam on the Pequonnock River. Besides small manufacturing activities, the town’s residents were dealing with growing vegetables and raising cattle, pigs and chickens that were sold in Bridgeport and the towns along the Long Island Sound. The population in Trumbull remained pretty much the same, without significant changes, until after World War I when veterans, and workers from Bridgeport needed homes, and moved to Trumbull. People slowly started to give up agriculture and by 1930, less than half the land was dedicated to farming.
