It is also known as an artistic town because many actors and other TV or film industry professionals, singers, musicians and writers were born or moved here. Over time, it gained a certain artistic reputation and now it’s preferred by artists and designers.

Besides the sought-after beauty and the waterfront or the artistic lifestyle, many families are attracted to Westport by the high ratings of its public schools, some of them ranked in the top 10 best schools in Connecticut.

Westport provides to its nearly 30.000 residents, peaceful neighborhoods and safe streets, a great walkability and also a serene and joyful, resort-like atmosphere.

Its proximity to Manhattan is also a plus, especially for commuters who can get by train to Manhattan Center in ~70 minutes, or by car, also in about an hour, with both I95 and Merritt Parkway easily accessible.

Growth & Development

Westport’s popularity and its location close to New York City, keep the demand for new construction very high, while the land is more and more scarce. This is also due to the fact that Westport is zoned for single family homes, as a town that is meant to provide a suburban lifestyle.

Because it is also one of the most sought-after towns for summer homes, there is a considerable number of mansions, especially waterfronts, built continually before and after the publishing of The Great Gatsby that made Westport so popular.

As the available land is more and more scarce, and the demand for new homes is higher, the cost for land, home building, housing development or rent, rise fast, but not as fast as the income. Therefore, the Westport Planning & Zoning Commission and the Department of Housing have planned several new affordable units for 2022 - 2027 including a new community designed for families in Greens Farms, on 2 acres of state-owned land.

Greens Farms is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Westport, especially due to the coastline area, but also, the proximity to I95 and the top ranked public school makes it one of the most desirable areas in Westport.

Another coveted area with several stunning new constructions is the Hunt Club neighborhood, bordering Fairfield Town.
