About the Lifestyle

One of the best residential settings surrounded by a golf course, Stratford’s Oronoque Village is a truly rare gem of Fairfield County for those who appreciate the beauty and the health benefits of living in the midst of nature, yet still part of a relatively large community that is active, serene and happy.

Oronoque Village, built between 1971 and 1977 on farmlands and apple orchards, was designed from the beginning for environmental conservation. Its 4 acre lake that is now part of the back nine, was once a swamp, several branches of the water streams in this area were diverted into mainstream channels, and the utilities were placed underground to preserve as many original trees as possible. At present, the Oronoque Village community of about 1700 people can rejoice to see the magical beauty of the original hemlock, oak, maple, beech, dogwood and tulip trees, and several bird species and wildlife around them.

The homes were built in harmony with the rolling hills and woods that surround them, with an architectural style drawn from the New England saltbox, the Swiss chalet and the Northern California cottage.

There are 900+ individual homes, displaying seven floor plans: Cooper, Emerson, Hawthorne, Peabody, Thoreau, Wolcott and Whittier  - named to evoke the priceless legacy of American Romanticism and Transcendentalism that unfolds a deep connection with nature.

Most homes are paired two to a building, having only one common wall, open floor plans and square footage from 1,420 up to 2,800 square feet, with one, two or three bedrooms, a den, one or extra baths and an attached one car garage. Many designs include a lower level that can be transformed into an office, den or entertainment room. The features include wood or gas-burning fireplaces,  cathedral or vaulted ceilings, closets with generous storage space, and some homes have extra bathrooms, eat-in kitchens and attached decks.

Oronoque Village residents are 55+ and very active, due to the great amenities available.  As a resident, you are automatically a Social Member of Oronoque Country Club and you already  have some privileges to play golf on the 18-holes championship golf course, enjoying substantial discounts if you choose to become a full golfing member with full privileges.

All residents of the Village can play racquet sports year-round, with access to 4 recently updated, synthetic-turf tennis courts, 3 hard-surface pickleball courts and 2 indoor table tennis tables.

There are two Clubhouses, located for greater convenience in the northern and southern parts of the Village. In the state-of-the-art Fitness Center you can workout anytime, led by a trainer, you can attend yoga and Zumba groups, and when it's warm, you can join the aqua-workout group and exercise in the swimming pool.

Residents have access to three large recently renovated swimming pools, one of them designated as a children's pool for visiting family.

Besides these appealing athletic activities, the facilities include an impressive Library with great books, videos and audiotapes, and each Clubhouse is fully equipped with auditoriums for cultural activities and events, parties, concerts and lectures. The Clubhouses also have kitchens, meeting rooms for various clubs, activity rooms for arts and crafts classes, cards and other games.

Even though the exterior landscaping is provided by the Village Maintenance Department, you can pursue your gardening hobby. Residents are encouraged by the "Mini-Farms" program, to plant a vegetable garden on plots available in a fenced area, or you can also plant around your home.

With so much activity in the Village, the community has a twice-monthly publication for which residents volunteer to write or provide photography, and there are also Village productions in which they can act and sing.

Plenty to do here as a resident, but if you want to explore other opportunities, you have the Oronoque Plaza nearby and many fine dining restaurants and entertainment options just a few minutes walk from the Village.

Conveniently situated by the Merritt Parkway, the Village offers very easy access to the Milford Connector and I-95, and it's just a short drive to the Stratford beaches, to the towns on Long Island Sound or to Metro North to New York.

No matter where you go, the magical beauty of Oronoque Village, this heart-warming community will soon call you back. You have a wealth of reasons to say: "There's no place like home!"
