Noticeably improved in terms of good living and safety in the past decade, and also redeveloped and revitalized a lot in the last few years, Bridgeport attracts more and more people while the City Council is committed to ensuring a good quality of life.
A master plan created in 2017 as a collaborative work that includes the City of Bridgeport, the business community, civic leaders, and community organizations, envisions the transformation of Bridgeport's waterfront, aiming to use several of the former industrial sites or brownfield areas and develop new homes, new venues with economic potential, and also new waterfront parks. With its 24 miles of shoreline being reshaped, Bridgeport is sure to be one of the greatest cities in the country. Bridgeport has been receiving significant funding for improvement or business expansion. The results are obvious in many areas.
The biggest new construction project known as the Steelpointe Luxury Apartments, is a mixed-use development on the Bridgeport Harbor. It received the final approval in June 2023, and it aims to build 1500 luxury apartments, as well as marina slips, retail stores, shops and a wrap-around boardwalk. The first construction phase is estimated to be complete by 2025.
A newly built condominium at Cherry Street Lofts offers 157 new affordable homes in the emerging West End Village. A supermarket, additional retail space, and more units are planned to be built in the next phase, the developer planning to build, in total, more than 1,800 units, and to develop 200,000 sq ft of retail space.
In Bridgeport's East End, the new community of Crescent Crossing offers 177 newly built units for mixed-income and great amenities that include a fitness center, activity rooms, bike storage, and more. 80 new units are planned to be built here.
Located near the Seaside Park, Windward Commons is a new complex with 406 new mixed-income housing units planned. In the first phase, 100 units are available, with a third of them kept for residents who relocated when the Marina Village was in the redevelopment stage.
Along with the new housing developments, many other construction projects have started or have just been approved, including the restoration of Palace and Majestic Theaters, as part of the Main Street revitalization plan - another project that has seen a lot of progress lately.
